Chief’s Larry Johnson being phased out?

NFL       Share This    Trackback

I had to post about this, yes, sorry, I do realize I haven’t posted in some time! But come on, LJ. You think you are being phased out?

Says Johnson, “I’ve got to sit back and figure that the writing is on the wall, that this season or next season could be my last season as a Chief,” Johnson said. “I don’t know. But obviously if they’re making personnel changes now and I’m not even in for any of the snaps to (try to) help win this game, then that pretty much says it for all.

“I’m not dumb. I know what’s going on. I sense what’s going on. Nobody should run the ball if it isn’t me. I always felt that way. If I’m not getting the ball, then I should be tired. If I’m not tired and I’m not getting the ball, then there’s something going on. I’ve just got to deal with it.”

Really? Maybe I am losing it but didn’t you just sign a large contract with the team? Let me guess Jamaal Charles is taking your job? This is down right comical, to say the least.

Hey LJ, grow up and be happy you’re collecting that huge paycheck.

The “no-brainer” Top 5 Uniforms in the NFL

NFL       Share This    Trackback

The best uniforms of the 2007 National Football League.

This is definitely a subjective topic, unless we’re referring to the Cleveland Browns uniforms - but hey, their fans love ’em and they have plenty of history behind them. I will be sure to follow-up this column with the Top 5 Worst Uniforms in the NFL as well.

Without further ado, the top five uniforms in the NFL - a no-brainer - with the top 2 in a league of their own.

5. Tennessee Titans

These are good-looking uniforms, although the old Houston Oilers uniforms would give them a run for their money. The helmets are cutting edge and the colors work well together. The icing on the cake is the font used for the numbers - it just looks sweet.

Tennessee

4. Philadelphia Eagles

Not only are the Philadelphia Eagles uniforms nice, they wear them well - performance is key. What “does it” for me with Phildelphia’s uniforms is the bold green color as well as the super trick Eagle logo on the sleeves of the jersey.

Philadelphia

3. Oakland Raiders

Although I like the black Oakland uniforms as well, I prefer the white/light silver version a tad better. I enjoy these uniforms for their simplicity and toughness. The Raiders certainly haven’t lived up to the rap of being “tough” but the uniforms sure do look the part.

 Oakland

2. Cincinnati Bengals

This is where it started getting easy for me. The Bengals have the best helmets in the National Football League, bar none. The bold tiger stripes never get old and for fans who wear their gear, what else could you ask for? You stand out like a sore thumb (in a good way of course)!

Cincinnati

1. San Diego Chargers

I have to agree with Chris Berman from ESPN on this one. The Chargers have the best all-around uniforms in the NFL. I love the powder blue uni’s even more! Fresh, clean and unique. Add on to the great color scheme the snazzy “Bolt” and you’ve got a clear cut winner.

San Diego

Marques Colston Video Clip

A must watch video of Marques Colston’s great hands.

You probably remember my post on Monday about having buyers remorse when I selected wide receiver Marques Colston in the 3rd round of my experts fantasy football league draft. After watching this video, I feel a little better about my selection … but just a little.

Are You Kidding Me, Pittsburgh?

NFL       Share This    Trackback

Team rider is higher maintenance than Paris Hilton.

I had to read this article twice … because the first time around I thought the bottom of the story was supposed to say “this is a practical joke, you’ve been had” - but no, it is what it is.

Pittsburgh vs. Paris Hilton

According to the Associated Press via FOX, the Pittsburgh Steelers have crazy demands in place (a contract) when they stay at various hotels for road games. Among the crazy demands in the 17 page hotel contract, yes, 17 pages include:

  • Foam pillows only, no down pillows
  • A catholic priest must be provided
  • Veteran/players with longer tenureship get their own room, other players must share a room
  • Heinz ketchup only, sorry Del Monte
  • Water must be available everywhere
  • The team ships gatorade to the hotel prior to their arrival so it can be setup in advance
  • Mini-bar alcohol is removed from the players rooms, and can’t be ordered from room service
  • They would like all players to be on the same floor

I left a few of the other demands out but you get the idea. What I would like to know is how many hotels tell them to go stuff it? If I were a general manager, I would decline the business if it weren’t ultra-lucrative.

What are your thoughts on this?

NFL.com Launches Beta Site

NFL       Share This    Trackback

Be one of the first to take a sneak peek at the beta NFL.com.

Today I stumbled upon something interesting - the NFL has a sneak peek of their new web site design available at NFL.com. Much like 110% Football, the NFL appears to be taking advantage of the new wave of web 2.0. A community atmosphere featuring videos, insider perspective, game clips, yada yada yada …

It was also interesting to see the noticeable presence of NFL International, Canada, Japan, UK, Mexico and China. The NFL has made it very clear it would like to follow in the foot steps of the NBA to expand globally. Without further ado, here you have it …

NFL.com Beta Site

Update: The NFL has pulled down the beta site. My guess is that they wanted it live this weekend to test direct connection for their scoreboards. All in all, it should be a fresh new look for the NFL.

Michael Vick, I’m Done Supporting You

NFL       Share This    Trackback

My take on his despicable act of selfishness.

Let me start off by saying, I used to be a big fan of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. I enjoyed watching him play the game of pro football, much like the rush I got from watching running back Barry Sanders play for the Detroit Lions. I was one of his supporters when critics insisted he was not the proto-typical quarterback to lead his team to the next level - a Super Bowl Championship.

My, how times have changed. I currently have two dogs of my own; I grew up in a family where animals were spoiled, treated as equals. I can’t see it any other way. I can’t even fathom Michael Vick’s justification of his alleged actions. I am disgusted by Michael Vick right now. Sure, he hasn’t been found guilty, but who owns a multi-million dollar home without visiting it or knowing what’s going on at the house? This wasn’t a house in the Virgin Islands, or California, this is a house that sits in Atlanta, his city of residence - and he didn’t know? B.S.

I thought about going through some of the details of what happened during and after these dog fights but I couldn’t bring myself to it. The photos are horrific.

Vick Chew Toy

I also find this company selling Michael Vick Dog Chew Toys to be exploiting a sensitive case in the wrong manner. Why? Because of the following pulled directly from their web site:

“Question 2) Are portions of your profits going to local animal shelters / organizations?

Answer: Absolutely. This has been a tricky step in our process. Many “organizations” have contacted us asking for funds. We have a goal with this project, to raise awareness of the atrocity of animal abuse. Unfortunately, not every “organization” is either committed to our goal or a legitimate organization. Thus we must check all leads before any commitment is made. Since we are committed to a donation in the true sense of the word, we will not disclose our contribution plans at this time.

More specifically what I highlighted above. They will be donating money but they will not disclose that information as of yet? Right. Furthermore, they state the following:

“Question 6) Are you a non-profit organization?

Answer: We are a for profit, soon to be formed LLC. We are making profit on the sale of items listed on our website. We will continue to give back to associated, verified charities through charitable donations.”

Of course they are a for-profit organization. Are they good business men, sure. But again, they are exploiting a sensitive case - I encourage everyone to refrain from buying their product until they can verify the charities they are supporting.

Any how, getting back to my story. The bottom line is, even if Michael Vick is found innocent, I will have a hard time writing it off to nothing more than high paid lawyers twisting the arms of naive jurors - putting that small bit of doubt necessary to allow Vick to walk without consequence.
